Au moins un cas suspect de la variole du singe découvert en Haïti

Publié le 2022-05-31 | lenouvelliste.com Un cas suspect de la variole du singe a été découvert dans l’Artibonite. C’est le directeur général du ministère de la Santé publique et de la Population (MSPP), le Dr Lauré Adrien, qui a fait l’annonce le mardi 31 mai 2022.

« Au cours des deux dernières semaines, des cas de variole du singe ont été signalés à l’Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS) dans plusieurs pays non endémiques n’ayant aucun lien direct avec une zone endémique », alerte l’OPS/OMS depuis son siège à Washington D.C. le 25 mai 2022.

Préoccupée par cette alerte, la Direction d’épidémiologie, des laboratoires et de la recherche du ministère de la Santé publique et de la Population (DELR/MSPP) a élaboré des fiches signalétiques à l’intention des prestataires de soins en vue de mettre en place un système d’alerte contre d’éventuels cas de la variole du singe.

Joint par téléphone, le directeur de la DELR, le Dr Samson Marseille, confirme la nouvelle et précise qu’il s’agit d’un « cas suspect ». Effectivement, la DELR a été alertée le 27 mai 2022 par la direction sanitaire de l’Artibonite d’un cas à Saint-Marc qui répond à la définition de « cas suspect de la variole du singe » élaboré et transféré préalablement aux directeurs départementaux”, confie le Dr Samson Marseille.

La DELR précise pour l’instant qu’il s’agit d’un cas suspect en attendant les résultats du laboratoire national de santé publique. « Pour l’instant, on ne peut pas avancer une date pour les résultats, les spécimens ont été envoyés aux Etats-Unis d’Amérique parce que nous ne sommes pas en mesure de réaliser le test », avance le Dr Samson Marseille avant d’annoncer qu’il est possible que ce ne soit pas le premier cas suspect.

« On a été alerté d’un autre cas au Cap-Haïtien parmi les rapatriés. Comme la personne venait de Fermathe, les professionnels de santé sur place ont pensé à une sarcoptose par rapport aux lésions et la présence d’une augmentation de cas de sarcoptose dans cette zone. Cependant, nous sommes restés en contact avec elle, au cas où une investigation s’avérerait nécessaire », souligne le directeur d’épidémiologie.

Dans la foulée, la DELR tient à rassurer la population. « Il s’agit d’une maladie avec un taux de létalité très faible, néanmoins elle est très contagieuse. Les principaux symptômes sont la fièvre, la toux, la céphalée, l’asthénie, des éruptions cutanées et parfois des lésions des muqueuses ».

La transmission se fait entre les êtres humains par contact direct avec des fluides corporels ou par les objets souillés.

Plus loin, la DELR/MSPP ajoute qu’il n’y a ni traitement spécifique ni vaccin disponible contre la variole du singe. La guérison est spontanée en 2 à 3 semaines.

En guise de mesures préventives, la DELR/MSPP invite la population à « se laver les mains fréquemment, éviter les contacts avec les malades, consulter un médecin et s’isoler s’il y a apparition de signes et de symptômes ».
