Emmelie Prophète reçoit le Prix Carbet des Lycéens

Publié le 2022-05-20 | lenouvelliste.com L’écrivaine haïtienne Emmelie Prophète a reçu officiellement le vendredi 20 mai 2022 en Guadeloupe le Prix Carbet des Lycéens pour « Les Villages de Dieu », l’un des livres les plus remarqués de la littérature haïtienne contemporaine.

Le roman, le 7e d’Emmelie Prophète, publié chez  Mémoire d’encrier est brûlant, sensible et porté par un souffle qui ne faiblit jamais. Ce livre avait déjà été récompensé par le Prix Fetkann / Maryse Condé en 2021. Durant la cérémonie de la remise du prix, la romancière a reçu une œuvre du plasticien guadeloupéen Sanmyèl. Dans une ambiance chaleureuse, le Prix a été remis officiellement à l’actuelle ministre de la Culture en Guadeloupe en présence du maire de Petit Bourg et du consul d’Haïti, des délégations d’élèves de Cayenne, de Saint-Laurent, de Saint-Martin, de Fort-de-France et de plusieurs communes de la Guadeloupe.

Très émue devant le jury, l’heure est à la joie pour la ministre de la Culture qui a rejoint Edwidge Danticat, Dany Laferrière, Gisèle Pineau, Derek Walcott au panthéon de ce prix. Interrogée par Le Nouvelliste, elle a dit être heureuse pour cette récompense. « C’est un très bel évènement bien pensé et bien organisé. Ce prix est toute une institution. J’ai reçu un très beau tableau d’un artiste guadeloupéen qui s’appelle Sanmyèl. C’est une très belle œuvre qui va me rappeler pour toujours cette journée inoubliable avec ces lycéens et lycéennes », a-t-elle expliqué.

« Je suis très heureuse et satisfaite. Je partage ce bonheur avec tous les Haïtiens et Haïtiennes qui vivent dans les îles Caraïbes qui sont très contents et très fiers que cette bonne nouvelle vienne un peu au milieu de beaucoup de mauvaises nouvelles que l’on entend de notre pays », a-t-elle ajouté.

Fondé en 1999 par la professeure de lettres modernes Micheline de Lacroix en collaboration avec l’association Arts lycéens, le prix Carbet des Lycéens a pour objectif de « valoriser la lecture des adolescents du secondaire et reconnaître le bien-fondé critique de leur regard ».

Le prix est décerné à un écrivain originaire de la Caraïbe. Ce sont les élèves eux-mêmes ou leurs représentants élus sous forme de délégués qui sélectionnent six œuvres de la littérature caribéenne. Ce prix est né aussi dans le but de valoriser la littérature caribéenne dans les lycées et les écoles, tout en incitant les participants à mieux connaître l’histoire de la Caraïbe. Chaque année, les académies de Guadeloupe, de Guyane et de Martinique permettent à des lycéens d’élire un roman caribéen contemporain
