Haïti sous la menace d’une onde tropicale

Publié le 2022-04-19 | lenouvelliste.com Pluies diluviennes, inondations et glissements de terrain…Les prévisions météorologiques ne sont pas favorables pour Haïti pendant les prochaines soixante-douze heures vu le risque d’une onde tropicale.  La direction générale de la Protection civile, qui souligne qu’Haïti est déjà sous l’influence de la saison pluvieuse, appelle la population des zones à risques à la vigilance.

Dans un communiqué publié le mardi 19 avril 2022, la Direction générale de la Protection civile (DGPC) informe le public en général et la presse en particulier que la grande saison pluvieuse qui commence, en général, au mois de mars, est en cours en Haïti. Depuis samedi, a souligné la DGPC, le pays appréhende une onde tropicale, qui était alors bloquée sur un axe s’étirant des Bahamas au Venezuela. Celle-ci est accompagnée de pluies orageuses localement peu mobiles et torrentielles.

Selon la Protection civile, cette onde pourrait persister plusieurs jours avec une intensification possible à partir de ce mardi. « L’Unité hydrométéorologique d’Haïti (UHM) a prédit, dès lundi, des vents forts et des averses orageuses en fin d’après-midi et en soirée, particulièrement dans les départements du Nord-Ouest, du Nord, de l’Artibonite, de l’Ouest, y compris le golfe de la Gonâve, les Nippes, le Sud-Est et la Grand’Anse », explique la DGPC.

La Protection civile indique que cette situation pourrait occasionner des crues éclair (inondations soudaines), des glissements de terrain et de ruissellement urbain dans les zones les plus vulnérables, notamment les départements du Nord-Ouest, du Nord-Est et de l’Artibonite. « Des vulnérabilités que l’absence ou le dysfonctionnement de réseaux d’égouts et d’évacuation des eaux pluviales, en milieu urbain, et la forte dégradation de l’environnement ont d’ailleurs augmenté », a-t-elle précisé.

« L’Unité hydrométéorologique suit de près la situation dans la région des Grandes Antilles. En vue d’informer la population de l’évolution de la situation hydrométéorologique, et afin de rappeler les consignes de sécurité et les conduites à tenir, la Direction générale de la Protection civile (DGPC) invite les médias, les influenceurs, les autres entités étatiques et gouvernementales et les partenaires nationaux et internationaux à relayer les messages et contenus officiels qui seront éventuellement publiés », a exhorté la Protection civile.

Les autorités en profitent pour demander à la population des zones exposées aux risques d’inondations et aux rafales de prendre les précautions nécessaires pour se protéger et protéger leurs proches, d’identifier les abris provisoires au préalable en cas d’évacuation et, surtout, de ne pas traverser les rivières en crue sous aucun prétexte.
